60 years on,
how are Israeli
Pittsburghers faring?

Many Pittsburghers have latched onto the Zionist dream, moving to Israel with their families and starting their lives anew.

For the 60th anniversary of Israeli independence, The Chronicle spoke to several expatriate Pittsburghers about their reactions to Israel at 60 and their hopes for the future.

Many of them noted the Americanization of the country - the move away from its socialist roots. Others bemoaned the plight of new immigrants, but almost all of them have hope for the future.

Moshe Fogel, 53, moved to Israel in 1976. He has been there ever since, working in a variety of ways to help the country, including service as the former director of the Israel Government Press Office. He is now the director of the non-profit Jerusalem Foundation.
